Window to the Soul

Inspired by a poem I wrote expanding on the idea that the eyes are windows to the soul, this mixed media painting represents my inner self. The use of stained glass serves as a metaphor for personal fragility and how easily the self can be shattered.
Within this scene, I imagine pain as a colorful experience. Yet when pain is ignored, it cries out internally. As I attempt to understand lifetimes of generational trauma, I envision this pain as an endless pool that gradually loses color the deeper you wade into it. There is a choice: to swim toward color or to sink into black.
