Pick Me

Pick Me references the internet-defined trope of a girl who performs extreme behaviors for attention and validation. The title becomes a play on words through the flowers that replace the hair in this self-portrait.
In the piece, I reach toward myself as if saying, “pick me.” It reflects who I used to be, someone desperate to be chosen by others. Now, however, that desire is redirected inward. Instead of seeking validation externally, I choose myself.
